The Possibility of Bringing Beer to the Bench.
The owners of Bench house have been dreaming about bringing their love and passion for craft beer for over six years. Husband and Wife Team, Derek and Christy Brown, had worked in the restaurant industry for years and both had just stepped foot into the beer scene in 2011 when Derek won a ProAm competition at Laughing Dog Brewing in the summer of 2012. The couple set out on an adventure, finding themselves brewing and serving beer in the beautiful landscapes of Northern Idaho with Laughing Dog. After a year Christy and Derek headed back down to their roots in Boise and Derek began a creative journey in his beer career with Woodland Empire, and Christy continued to sling beers around the Treasure Valley. Eventually they met up with fellow owner Cade Beck.
Cade had been on his own adventure of obtaining his Master's Degree in Biomedical Engineering at the City College of New York. After obtaining his degree Cade performed lab work for the College and made his way back to the City of Trees. One fateful night Cade and Derek, whom had gone to highschool together, met up for a beer and Bench House Brewing, once a dream became a reality, the question was where were these three going to make this reality happen?
Cade, Derek and Christy worked feverishly trying to find a location on the Bench that would fit their needs and wishes, working with different landlords and spaces and always came up short. That was until they became acquainted with Mary and Scott DeWalt, a couple involved with The Commons Climbing Gym. The DeWalts truly believed in the Bench House Team and their mission and vision and they agreed to give Bench House Brewing a home. Now the question was, did the City of Boise and The Central Bench Neighborhood agree with The Commons Co-Founders? Though the process of making 4795 W. Emerald St. the home of Bench House Brewing Co. was no easy task, The City of Boise agreed to make the vacant office the Bench House home.
Cade, Derek and Christy are so thankful for those who supported them through the process of obtaining their Conditional Use Permit for the home of Bench House Brewing Co. There is more to do and overcome before Bench House is able to pour beer, but keep your eyes open Boise Bench! Bench House Beer will be coming to you soon!
